How long have you been a vegan?
1 year, 10 years previously a vegetarian – that’s right I was giving my grade 3 speech on being a vegetarian!
What made you become a vegan?
I wanted to challenge myself, challenge the food industry, inspire others, and take my passion for the earth, health and animals to the next level.
If it was for health reasons, what changes have you noticed?
Improved energy, glowing skin, better focus, inner peace and a more mindful eater.
What is your best tip for new vegans?
To forgive yourself and become educated. Learn about the different types of vegans, and what you think will work best for you. Be mindful of each bite you take, as food is fuel! Get in the kitchen and be creative!!
What non vegan food (if any) do you miss the most?
Nothing!! My taste buds have changed and for the better!! I crave fruit and my ultimate favourite: banana ‘nice’ cream!
Favourite cafe/restaurant?
Carrots n’ Dates. They are located in Windsor (Canada) and is my go-to vegan and gluten free cafe. I also work at Beets and Berries and their vegan smoothies and cold pressed juices are amazing!!
An example of a normal day of eating for you
Breakfast – A power smoothie, always including a banana, blueberries, greens, Sunwarrior raw protein powder and whatever superfoods I have in my house! I also add some cinnamon and cayenne for an extra kick!
AM Snacks – handful of nuts, any fruit.
Lunch – Raw salad, lots of greens, veggies, nuts or avocado, and apple cider vinegar, homemade dressing or hummus on top!
PM Snacks – Brown rice cakes are my favourite. I will also munch on some cucumbers, carrots, or another piece of fruit.
Dinner – Brown rice, quinoa and steamed veggies, love starchy veggies, nori rolls with brown rice, bean noodles, and I love making coleslaws!
Evening Snacks – Fruit, veggies, nuts – try to stop eating by 8pm every night.
Drinks – Organic teas, cold-pressed juice, smoothies, fruit-infused water.
Brief info about yourself or any interesting facts?
I am so passionate about health and am definitely going to take a few courses in nutrition and see where that takes me! I practice my own yoga routine every day, run, and play the harp, saxophone and guitar. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats, and absolutely love animals!
I am going to university for business, and plan to open my own non-profit organization addressing the needs of those in my community and internationally. I am a strong believer in the power of plants, and don’t incorporate anything processed into my diet. I believe we can heal diseases with the right diet and lifestyle!
Do you have a blog or Facebook page you would like to include?
I have my own blog documenting my travels to different places and finding amazing vegan cuisine! It’s called theveggievillager.wordpress.com!
